# Flexi Kanban Board Anatomy

Before diving into configuration and features, it helps to know what you are looking at. This page walks through every visual element of a Flexi Kanban board — what it is, where it lives, and what it does. All elements described here are shared across Standard, Child, and Composite board types.

### Kanban Header

The Kanban Header runs across the top of the board and serves as the primary control bar. It gives users access to board-level actions, navigation, and optionally displays Quick Filters and Statistics directly inline.

The header contains the following elements:

#### View Selector

A dropdown that lets users switch between saved Views — pre-configured filter combinations that scope the board to a specific subset of records. Selecting a View instantly reloads the board with that View's filters applied. Learn more in [Views](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/using-kanban/how-to-work-with-filters-and-orders#manage-filters-and-orders).

#### Open / Hide Filter Side Panel Button

A toggle button that opens or closes the Filter Side Panel on the right side of the board. Use it to access advanced filtering options without leaving the board. Learn more in [Filter Side Panel](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/using-kanban/how-to-work-with-filters-and-orders).

#### Refresh Button

Reloads the board data from Salesforce without requiring a full page refresh. Useful for teams working in real time who need to pull in the latest record updates.

#### Standard Actions Menu

A dropdown menu that provides access to board-level administrative and utility actions:

* **Edit Kanban** — opens Kanban Studio to modify the board configuration. This option is only visible to the board creator or users who have been granted edit access permissions by an admin
* **Enable / Disable Fullscreen Mode** — expands the board to fill the entire screen, hiding Salesforce navigation chrome
* **Show Debug Console** — opens a diagnostic panel for troubleshooting board configuration and data loading issues

#### Custom Buttons

Admins can configure additional buttons in the header to perform specific actions — for example, opening a form, navigating to a different Flexi Kanban board or Lightning Page, or executing a background action. Custom Buttons are optional and will only appear if configured. Learn more in [Custom Buttons](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/configure-kanban/how-to-add-kanban-buttons-and-menus).

#### Swimlane Selector

Appears in the header only when at least one Swimlane has been configured for the board. Lets users switch between available Swimlane groupings to reorganize how cards are displayed horizontally across the board. Learn more in **Swimlanes**.

#### Quick Filters

An optional set of predefined filter shortcuts configured by the board admin. When enabled, Quick Filters appear inline in the Kanban Header and let users instantly narrow the board to a specific subset of records with a single click — without opening the Filter Side Panel.

Quick Filters can alternatively be positioned in the **Sub-Header** — a dedicated row that renders directly below the Kanban Header. This is configured via the **Position** property in Kanban Studio. Learn more in Quick Filters.

#### Statistics

An optional set of metrics and aggregate values configured by the board admin. When enabled, Statistics appear in the Kanban Header between the View Selector and other header elements, giving users an at-a-glance summary of board-level data.

Statistics can alternatively be positioned in the **Sub-Header** — a dedicated row that renders directly below the Kanban Header. This is configured via the **Position** property in Kanban Studio. Learn more in [Statistics](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/configure-kanban/how-to-add-kanban-statistics).

### Sub-Header

The Sub-Header is a structural zone that renders as a dedicated row directly below the Kanban Header. It serves as an alternative position for **Quick Filters** and **Statistics** — independent board components that can each be placed either inside the Kanban Header or in the Sub-Header, controlled via the **Position** property in Kanban Studio.

The Sub-Header appears automatically when at least one component is configured to use it, and is hidden when neither component is positioned there. Use it to keep the Kanban Header lean, or when Quick Filters or Statistics warrant more visual space and prominence. Learn more in Sub-Header.

### Kanban Column

Columns are the vertical sections of the board. Each column represents a stage or status value drawn from one or more grouping fields configured on the board. Unlike Salesforce Kanban View, which ties columns rigidly to a single standard picklist field, Flexi Kanban gives admins full control over column definition — including the ability to use multiple fields to drive column structure when a single field is not sufficient to represent the workflow. Cards sit inside columns and move between them as work progresses.

Each column is made up of the following parts:

#### Column Header Group

An optional visual element that groups two or more adjacent columns under a shared parent label. Useful for organizing related stages into logical clusters — for example, grouping `Prospecting` and `Qualification` under an `Early Stage` parent header. Learn more in [Column Header Group](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/configure-column/how-to-set-column-groups).

#### Column Header

Displayed at the top of each column. The content of the column header is fully configurable by the admin — it can include the column name, record count, aggregate values, custom labels, or other elements. Learn more in [Column Header](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/configure-column/how-to-configure-column-header).

#### Column Body

The main area of the column where Kanban Cards are displayed. Cards stack vertically within the column body and can be dragged to other columns to update the underlying Salesforce record. Learn more in [Column Body](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/configure-column/how-to-configure-column-body).

#### Column Footer

Displayed at the bottom of each column. Like the Column Header, its content is fully configurable and can include totals, aggregate values, or other summary information. Learn more in [Column Footer](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/configure-column/how-to-configure-column-footer).

### Kanban Card

A Kanban Card represents a single Salesforce record on the board. Each card displays a set of configured fields and elements that give users the information they need at a glance — without opening the full record.

#### Kanban Card Elements

Each card is made up of one or more **Card Elements** — individual building blocks that display specific information. A Card Element can be:

* **Text** — displays a field value or label
* **Icon** — displays a visual indicator
* **Menu** — displays a dropdown of available actions

Each Card Element is individually configurable. Admins control what it displays — a static text value, a merge field pulled from the record, or a formula expression for more dynamic output. Each element also has its own design attributes — including color, font size, and other styling properties — making it possible to turn any element into a color-coded visual indicator that changes appearance based on record data or conditions.

Any Card Element can also be made interactive by attaching a **Handler** — a configured interaction that defines what happens when the user clicks that element (e.g., opening a form, navigating to a record, or executing a background action). Learn more in **Kanban Card** and **Handlers**.

### Card Group

Within a column, cards can be further organized into **Card Groups** — collapsible sections that group cards sharing a common field value. For example, within a `Prospecting` column, Opportunities can be grouped by `Account Name` — so all deals for the same account are visually clustered together and can be expanded or collapsed as needed. Learn more in [Card Groups](https://docs.flexikanban.ai/standard-kanban/groups-of-cards/how-to-configure-card-grouping).

***

### Swimlane

A Swimlane is a horizontal band that spans across all columns of the board, grouping cards by a configurable condition. Where columns represent progression (what stage is this record in?), Swimlanes add a second dimension of organization (which group does this record belong to?).

For example, a sales pipeline board might use Swimlanes to separate Opportunities by owner or by region — so each rep or territory has its own horizontal band, and stages remain visible as columns across all bands.

Swimlanes are optional and only appear when configured. If multiple Swimlanes are set up, users can switch between them using the [Swimlane Selector](https://claude.ai/chat/3ff2e1a4-8052-48a2-8c2f-8ff0fe64eda1#swimlane-selector) in the Kanban Header. Learn more in [Swimlanes](https://claude.ai/chat/3ff2e1a4-8052-48a2-8c2f-8ff0fe64eda1).

### Detail Panel

The Detail Panel is a side panel that opens when a user clicks on a Kanban Card. It displays the full details of the selected record without navigating away from the board, allowing users to review and edit record information in context.

The content and layout of the Detail Panel is defined by the **Card Layout** configuration in Kanban Studio. Card Layout controls which fields and sections are displayed, how they are arranged, and whether the panel uses vertical tabs to organize content into multiple views.

### Filter Side Panel

The Filter Side Panel slides in from the right side of the board when the user clicks the [Open / Hide Filter Side Panel Button](https://claude.ai/chat/3ff2e1a4-8052-48a2-8c2f-8ff0fe64eda1#open--hide-filter-side-panel-button) in the Kanban Header. It provides access to advanced filtering options, allowing users to build complex, multi-criteria filters to narrow the records displayed on the board.

Filters applied through the Filter Side Panel can be saved as a **View** for quick access in future sessions. Learn more in [Filter Side Panel](https://claude.ai/chat/3ff2e1a4-8052-48a2-8c2f-8ff0fe64eda1) and [Views](https://claude.ai/chat/3ff2e1a4-8052-48a2-8c2f-8ff0fe64eda1).
